Records of the Corporation 1966 - 1974

In 1835 Portsmouth a particular borough status, which was enhanced by the Local Government Act 1888, which conferred on Portsmouth the status of 'County Borough', but in April 1974 Portsmouth became a District Council in the 'new' administrative County of Hampshire as a result of the Local Government Act 1972. This fascinating record of the corporation makes interesting reading including the first investment by the council to the Mary Rose project, the decision to close the City Airport and the original purchase of the New Theatre Royal with the intention of demolishing it and redeveloping the area.
