Landport is a classic inner-city community, the lives of its residents shaped by the closeness of its personal relationships, the physical landscape dramatically altered in the 20th century by wartime bombing and redevelopment. This booklet, illustrated with over 60 photos, tells something of its recent history through the memories of more than 32 people who lived or worked there between 1920 and 2004. The interviewees include people from a wide range of occupations, including children, housewives and a parish priest, giving a fascinating account of change in the heart of Portsmouth.
The booklet is based on an oral history project run jointly by Portsmouth Museums and Records Service, University of Portsmouth and Portsmouth Royal Dockyard Historical Trust and was supported by The Heritage Lottery Fund.
